(ECUR 165) Reflection Questions

Week 1:  What does “teacher identity” mean to you? What does your identity look like at this phase in your career as a teacher?

  • Teacher identity is who you are as a teacher. You get to chose who you want to be and how you want to portray yourself to your students and colleagues. I have already done my student teaching so I am very confident in what my teacher identity is. I am fun, caring, open, honest, reliable, trustworthy, and flexible. I want my students to feel safe and comfortable talking to me about anything.

Week 3: How did the type of school I was in shape my high school experience?

My high school was amazing. Although I struggled with self issues throughout my high school career, I still really enjoyed it. My school was a composite school and it was very diverse in the students it had. It had students of all mediums, age, ethnicity, and religion. It felt very inclusive all of the time. I had lots of friends and I was quite popular and well known. This helped me step out of my shell and become more confident. Everybody was nice and did not bully anyone. This was a change for me because I was used to getting bullied all of the time in middle school and elementary. I discovered who I was and who I wanted to be because I had the ability to be myself without fear of being bullied. I am who I am today because of all of the experiences I had in high school.
